BigPicture

BigPicture is a plugin for Jira that enables organizations to plan, monitor and optimize scaled agile processes at both team, program, and solution levels. The functions in BigPicture are based on several of the tools recommended by SAFe®. You thus get the opportunity to plan and follow progress on the application’s built-in Roadmap module, plan PI backlogs, and see dependencies across teams from the board module, ROAMe risks from a BigPictures Risk Matrix and create and follow PI Objectives at both team and program level. We can, therefore, say with certainty that BigPicture provides you with good prerequisites for carrying out the organization’s PI Plannings and subsequently following progress to be able to focus, implement, and adjust the plan as needed.

The Roadmap module can be used to plan and communicate initiatives, deliveries, and milestones at portfolio, solution, and program levels.
An organization can advantageously use this module to follow progress on deliveries that deliver parts of the organization’s strategy and vision and communicate short-term and long-term initiatives internally and to stakeholders.
In BigPicture, milestones are visualized as a rhomb on the Roadmap, and they are also clearly visible in the info panel on the right side of the Roadmap so you can quickly form an overview of relevant milestones.

Since BigPicture is a Jira plugin that builds on the data in Jira, teams still have the opportunity to work with their Jira boards in their daily work.
Where BigPictures board module can bring value to your organization is, for example, for the following events:

PI Planning: Team break-outs and Plan Reviews, where agile teams can break down Features into Stories directly from the PI backlog in the right side of the module, as well as plan stories for each iteration.
From the board module, teams also have the opportunity to plan and see dependencies across teams within the same ART, as well as the team’s planned PI dependencies.

SOS: From the board module, Scrum Masters has the opportunity to coordinate the planning of future iterations and identify and manage dependencies across teams.

During PI Planning, each team identifies the Program Risks and obstacles that may affect the ability to achieve the planned Objectives. It is from the BigPictures Risk module that teams can create the risks they identify. From here, it is possible to get an overview of the created Risks in a Risk Matrix and list form. It is also from the BigPictures Risk Matrix that we at aety recommend that you run your ROAMing sessions. Here you can discuss and highlight Program Risks, after which they can be categorized, one by one, according to the ROAMing technique’s categories: Resolved, Owned, Accepted, and Mitigated.
As the name suggests, the Objectives module allows teams to create PI Objectives and summarize the business and technical objectives that the team expects to deliver within the upcoming PI. PI Objectives help ensure an adapted focus that matches the organization’s vision, and they can also be used to communicate which objectives are expected to be delivered in the upcoming PI to the organization’s stakeholders. The BigPictures Objectives module supports SAFe®’s definition of Objectives. You thus have the option of both creating committed and uncommitted solutions, program and team objectives as well as specifying PBV and ABV. In addition, BigPicture also uses SAFe’s Program Predictability Measure (PPM) to indicate the percentage of delivered business value per PI.
